Kochu-Achen’s Words: Being brought up in Kolkota, It was the way I was brought up by my parents in a strict Christian life, which led to my vocation. I still treasure the moments of my mother taking me to church in my childhood. It was only in 1992 that the malankarities in kolkata knew that they belonged to the Malankara church and not the Latin Church, which until then was a practice there. Later in my youth days, different situations watered the interest in me to become a priest. My sister and her family were also supportive in my choice of vocation. I was lightheartedly called as Fr. George in my high school days by my friends. Another great inspiration in my life was Mother Theresa for her work for the poor and needy. We being brought up in Kolkota were privileged to attend the holy mass at Sister Theresa’s orphanage every Thursday and be inspired from her works. Summing-up all the above situations I would say “GOD CALLED I RESPONDED”. I am also proud to be the first and only students to attain priesthood from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkota- A College which is now 140years old. To conclude I promise to pray for all the needy – my distinct hobby and also awe this moment to all my friends, relatives and parents for their prayers, which led him to reach this level in his life.

His New Role: Fr. Thomas will take up his first responsibility as a Vice-Principal of a school in Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu on the 15th of December 2007.

The Bangalore Region whole heartedly wish and pray that God Almighty will help him impact more and more humans in his challenging service in days to come.

Exclusively Report From the Vicar's Desk

11.YES ! CHRIST IS RISEN!

With the culmination of the great and blessed lent, through the touching and thought provoking Holy Week Services. It is indeed great pleasure and pride to proclaim that Christ is Risen.

This year’s Holy Week was very important for the Bangalore Malankara Catholic Church because of the presence of her great shepherd Most Rev.Dr.Jacob Mar Barnabas, to whose care the Malankara Church of Bangalore was entrusted for the pastoral care a year ago. The Apostolic Visitator of ETRI, Bishop Mar Barnabas joined the Bangalore faithful on Wednesday evening and conducted the “washing the feet” ceremony for the first time ever in Bangalore and celebrated the Passover mass at Hennur St. Mary’s church on Maundy Thursday. 12 elders from the three parishes in Bangalore were selected to represent the 12 Apostles for the Kalukazhuval Shishrusha. According to the malankara Church tradition the ceremony of feet washing are presided/conducted only by bishops of the church, the successors of Apostle; which makes the ceremony a rare one. For the same reasons many of the Bangalore Malankarites were witnessing this ceremony by the bishop for the first time, a live example of the humbleness and services that the Great Shepherd in Jesus Christ wanted each one to follow in his worldly life.

The Good Friday services were conducted in all the three churches viz; Mathikere, Hennur, Singsandra simultaneously. While Bishop Mar Barnabas led the Good Friday services at Mathikere, Rev. Fr. George Theckadayil and Rev. Fr. George Thomas led the service at Hennur and Singasandra which touched the hundreds of believers gathered to realize the sacrifice of the SON OF GOD. The Good Friday service ended in the evening with all the believers participating in the passion by drinking KAIPUNIRUU.

His Excellency preside over the Holy Saturday mass at mathikere while the vicar-in charges presided over the special mass at hennur and Singasandra, where we specially remember our departed souls.
The great feast of Easter was celebrated with full of joy in the Bangalore region. The Easter services at all the 3 Bangalore churches were arranged on Saturday evening. The blessings of our resurrected Lord was evident in the Bangalore Malanakra community, especially at the singsandra church as His Excellency Jacob Mar Barnabas, proclaimed the joy of our Lords Resurrection.

Let us all experience and proclaim loudly that Christ our Lord is Risen defeating his enemies. Let his resurrection give each one of our life’s the meaning and direction and the opportunity to start over no matter what your circumstances are…
